Supporting Patients with Bay Area Cancer Connections

2 min read

For people going through cancer treatment, getting to the next appointment is not always simple. Treatment can mean frequent trips for infusions, radiation, imaging, follow-up visits, and other care. For some patients, a standard ride is not an option. They may need an ambulance because of their medical condition, mobility needs, or the level of support required during transport. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Westmed is partnering with Bay Area Cancer Connections to help make those trips a little easier.

As part of the partnership, Westmed will provide ambulance transportation for qualifying BACC patients traveling from Santa Clara or Alameda counties over the next 12 months. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Westmed is also matching donations made to BACC throughout October, giving the community another way to support patients and families.

Supporting Patients

Beyond the Ride

BACC works with people facing breast and ovarian cancer across the Bay Area, helping connect them with resources and support throughout treatment. For some

patients, transportation becomes part of that need. That can mean getting to an infusion or radiation appointment, traveling for imaging, returning home after a hospital stay, or reaching another scheduled visit where ambulance transportation is medically appropriate. Through the partnership, BACC can now connect qualifying patients with Westmed when that level of transportation is needed.

Westmed is also supporting BACC’s broader work during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by matching donations made throughout October. Those contributions help BACC continue providing services and resources to patients and families across the region.

Giving Back to the Communities We Serve

Westmed works throughout the Bay Area healthcare system every day, so partnerships like this are a natural extension of the work our crews already do. For patients undergoing cancer treatment, reliable transportation can remove one more barrier to care. Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives us an opportunity to highlight that need, but our partnership with Bay Area Cancer Connections continues beyond October.
