Wheelchair van is only for patients who are medically stable. Westmed Ambulance Wheelchair service does not accept calls to locations where the driver is needed to negotiate stairs or assist with transfer. The patient should be able to sit upright and self-administer oxygen.
Our Gurney van transports are reserved for patients who are medically stable and able to self-administer oxygen but need to be transferred lying down or supine position. An EMT is present to ensure the transportation is safe and comfortable.
BLS is requested for patients who necessitate medical supervision during transport. Two California certified Emergency Medical Technicians closely monitor the patient and offer basic life support should the need arise.
Westmed ALS paramedics respond to emergent calls and offer patients advanced intervention if needed during transport. Our experienced medics, advanced equipment, and sturdy vehicles, ensure our patients have a great experience and superior medical treatment.
When a patient requires the highest level of medical care during transport, CCT offers a licensed critical care nurse and a California certified EMT fully equipped to meet the need of these special patients. CCT nurses can perform procedures and assessments authorized by a prescribing practitioner.
Ambulances are staffed with at least two EMT’s from Westmed and a Neonatal Transport Team from either the sending or receiving medical facility. The team is staffed with one RN, one Respiratory Therapist and may include a Physician. The EMT’s support the transport Team.
