Today’s Westmed network of ambulance companies began in 1986 when company owners established a start-up ambulance service in Santa Fe Springs, California. That first company, Rescue-1 Ambulance, grew from a single ambulance to 13 in seven years. Rescue-1 was licensed in Los Angeles and Orange Counties and served skilled nursing facilities in over 18 cities - including providing basic life support and backup first response services for the Fire Department in the City of Compton. Rescue-1 was sold to Laidlaw Inc., d.b.a. MedTrans, in 1993.

The founders have currently leveraged their combined experience of over 50 years in the EMS field and a commitment to professional excellence into several highly successful companies that serve vast areas of California. Westmed Ambulance currently operates a network of 24 strategically located stations throughout its service areas. The company continues to increase its fleet by purchasing only the most modern ambulances and equipment.

Locally and privately owned, Westmed Ambulance tailors its programs and services to meet its customers' and patients' specific needs. Westmed successfully provides services throughout California to more than 100 skilled nursing facilities and acute care hospitals. Westmed specializes in the following service areas:

  • Emergency/Non-Emergency Basic Life Support Ambulance Service
  • Emergency/Non-Emergency Advanced Life Support
  • Specialty Care Transports
  • Critical Care Transport
  • Special Event Medical Ambulance Standby

Westmed's entire professional management team from the top down is comprised of individuals who have spent a significant amount of time in the field as Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. By pooling their collective experience and ambulance business acumen, Westmed Ambulance operations have evolved to be considered one of the best ambulance provider networks in the industry.
